Homemade Elderberry Syrup Recipe
INGREDIENTS
½ cup whole dried elderberries
4 cups water
1 Lemon, juiced
2 Tsp Whole Cloves (optional)
2 Tsp Dried Ginger Root
2-3 Cinnamon Sticks
2 Tbsp Local Honey
INSTRUCTIONS
- Combine dried elderberries, water, cloves, ginger, and cinnamon sticks in a pot.
- Bring to a boil; then once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes or until the mixture is reduced by one third.
- Remove from the heat and let cool.
- Strain the mixture while it is still warm.
- Add honey and mix.
- Store in the refrigerator and take daily to help boost immunity.

According to WebMD, there is not standard dose of elderberry. Some studies have used 1 Tbsp of elderberry syrup up to four times a day to help treat the flu.
WebMD also states that raw elderberry fruit, flowers and leaves contain a chemical that produces cyanide. Because of potential risks, elderberry is not recommended for children or for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Always research each herb you choose for personal safety concerns before using them.
