According to WebMD, there is not standard dose of elderberry. Some studies have used 1 Tbsp of elderberry syrup up to four times a day to help treat the flu.

WebMD also states that raw elderberry fruit, flowers and leaves contain a chemical that produces cyanide. Because of potential risks, elderberry is not recommended for children or for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.  Always research each herb you choose for personal safety concerns before using them.
